Apart from its "sad past", as I could call it, Aya Sofya has hidden over the centuries some splendid mosaics, which you should see. In fact, there are only the remains, because when the church was conquered and converted into a mosque all the mosaics were covered (as Islam religion does not accept figurative illustrations and the worship of the saints).
