cynohn's question:
What should I know about the Aya Sofya from Istanbul before visiting it. I wouldn't like to go there and have no idea about its past.(give a different answer) .
Aya Sophia is one of the most glorious churches in the world and as it seems, the biggest. It is an important piece in the history if this region. It was built by Justinian in the 5th century and until the conquest of Constantinopolis it represented the centre of Christianity. From that moment it's story would become tragic... Sultan Mehmet II Fatih converted the church into a mosque. It remained like that till 1930 when Ataturk declared it a museum.
